SALEM, Mass. — The Massachusetts Marine Trades
Association, which represents over 1,200 marine trades
businesses in the Commonwealth, has elected Russ Vickers
as Third Vice President, it reported in a recent
statement. Vickers is president of Salem Water Taxi and
Hawthorne Cove Marina.
Vickers served on the MMTA’s Board of Directors for a
three-year term. He has operated Salem Water Taxi since
2001 and Hawthorne Cove Marina since 1993, and between
the two businesses, he has 350 moorings and slips in
Salem Harbor, according to the association. Vickers also
serves as chairman of The Salem Partnership, a
public/private partnership between the city and major
businesses and institutions that has been planning and
securing support for the expansion and redevelopment of
Salem Harbor and its Designated Port Area.
The MMTA’s membership consists of boat builders, dealers
and brokers as well as marinas, boatyards, retailers,
insurers and finance agents. Its mission is to further
the interests of the marine trades and boating public,
and a key initiative will be its presence at the annual
Boat Show to be held in Boston in February, the group
reported.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve this
statewide organization in a leadership capacity,” said
Vickers. “Our industry has been hard hit by economic
times, and now more than ever is the time for leaders to
band together to do all we can to advocate for boating
and the boating industry in this state.”
